Attaining Wellness is not some complicated recipe of schedules, actions or behaviors but a series of simple choices.
As simple as not eating that donut, drinking that extra beer, taking the stairs not the elevator or listening to the unpleasant gossip around the water cooler.
It is purely cumulative as every thought, feeling and behavior either adds or subtracts from your Total Wellness.
I would like you to think of it like a bucket of water.
So not eating the donut or taking the stairs makes a deposit to that Wellness Bucket while leading the gossip about how you all are hungover from binge drinking the previous night is a large withdrawal from the Wellness Bucket.
I’m not going to ascribe some Weight Watcher points system but needless to say some behaviors are far more unhealthy than others. You must also measure the impact on your immediate health as why you feel so awful from your hangover as your body has to work real hard to adjust its body chemistry.
Far worse, those years and decades of hangovers create toxic environments that produce long-term health impacts in the form of cellular degeneration. So remember the next time you are feeling awful after doing something it is your body telling you it’s not happy with you at all!
Conversely, when you are feeling just awesome after an amazing swim or a run, eating a healthy meal or doing some great deed of kindness it is both your physical body in conjunction with your mind giving you a dose of uplifting neurotransmitter as a reward. These behaviors when repeatedly practiced form more than a lifestyle but a Wellness Mindset.
The key to possessing a Wellness Mindset is continuing Self-Knowledge as a life-long journey of Self-Discovery.
Yes…of course we deviate from time to time in attaining that Wellness State of Perfection but the critical factor is learning the Life Rhythm of your Body-Mind-Spirit. Once you zero in on that “Sweet Spot”; you know when you’re firing on all cylinder and when you’re not.
The Stock Market and Employment Opportunities are producing a sense of material prosperity for many but our Collective Mental Wellness has never been worse. In fact I have seen a steady decline in the general wellness of so many people. Some tell me they’re stressed, they have no time or things just don’t get done.
This Collective Psycho- Wellness is also blamed by many of my friends on the President and the politicians in Washington DC but I think the previous president hit this spot on with a speech he gave just last month…it is about US.
So while these Self-Interested folks do their thing my advice to you is to make it a priority to put your Wellness First….ignore all the unhealthy noise and distractions.
You cannot save the planet , the nation if you cannot save yourself first. So if you want to give everyone your best “A” Game then you need to make Wellness the top priority in your life.
I am constantly surprised at the excuses I hear of why someone does not think enough about themselves to stop eating that extra donut or taking a walk instead of playing some stupid game on their phone.
I find so many individuals who on the surface have all the material trappings of wealth and success but are deeply lost and troubled… they live in constant turmoil
I hear often..So where do I start? What do I do? You think I can do this?
The answer is like the Little Engine that Could….
….I think I can, I Think I Can, I Think I Can …
Many people I deal with after some reading and a short discussion…a month later I’m hearing that Little Engine telling me…
I knew I could, I Knew I Could, I Knew I Could.
I wrote the book Simple Energy- Living a Good and Vigorous Life as way of explaining how anyone could attain Optimal/Balanced Wellness through undertaking a Self-Inventory and initiating a Journey of Self-Discovery.
I find the greatest challenge is that as a society so many of us, especially younger people have invested so much in what’s on their outside and don’t have even a remote clue what’s going on in their insides.
C.G. Jung speaks about the Psyche/Spirit always finding an avenue for its expression but when we don’t have even a clue who or what that is; the compensatory energy of that powerful force constantly seeks to redirect our behavior. If you choose to ignore it then it only disrupts us more.
So we drown out that life energy by Self-Medicating – Self- Pleasuring and become a truly shallow if not totally dysfunctional individual. Needless to say, the Bucket of Wellness is totally empty here.
Simple Energy tells a series of stories of brave people that confronted their demons, were committed and persistent ….Won Big!
The Balance Wellness Workbook becomes a guide to Simple Energy. Fourteen Steps on a Journey to Changing your Mindset- Life- Future and Destiny.
What I hear often is how remarkably easy it is to live this Life of Wellness.
My new website is going to feature some of these Success Stories that will inspire you to choose Wellness… reject the short-term pleasure and become a focused individual that not only can change their life but that of the world.
Margret Mead, world famous sociologist said
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, individuals can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
